New Forest North Heavy Goods Vehicle Restrictions

Report of the Director of Environment

Item 1

Contact: Chris Reeves, ext 5028 email: [email protected]

1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

That, taking account of the details of the objection from the Northfield Road Residents' Association in Appendix A to this report, the Executive Member reaffirms the decision to make a Traffic Regulation Order for the introduction of the New Forest North heavy goods vehicle restrictions, maintaining the boundary set out in the original proposal.

2. Reason

2.1 As reported to the Executive Member for Environment on 16 January 2007 the scheme will reduce the number of heavy commercial vehicles on the northern part of the New Forest National Park, with a subsequent reduction of associated noise and pollution giving positive benefits for the well-being of communities situated on the B3078, B3079 and B3080, and for the recreational users of this area of the Forest.

2.2 This addendum report corrects an administrative error that resulted in the details of one letter of objection being omitted from an appendix to the original report.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected

3.1 Do nothing to amend the administrative error.

4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or Other Executive Member Consulted - None.

5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - None.

6. Reasons for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent

6.1 The commencement date for the scheme has been published and in order to implement the scheme to meet the publicised time scale an urgent decision is required. This will enable the statutory requirements of the order making process to be met while not significantly delaying the introduction of the scheme. There would also be cost implications in suspending the work to install the road signs, which is currently in progress.
