Residents' Association of Northfield Road, Ringwood

        a)

        b)

Requests that the proposed HGV restricted zone be extended to cover residential roads on the northern limit of Ringwood which are adjacent to the zone boundary, namely:

        Northfield Road

        Highfield Drive

        Gravel Lane

        Seymour Road

        Morant Road

        Fairlie Park

        Edwina Close

        Forestside Gardens.

It is considered that the roads are used by `rat-running' traffic between the A338 and the A31, particularly on Northfield Road. This route is unsuitable for HGVs and is used by children travelling to three local schools, and as such this through traffic creates a safety hazard on Northfield Road itself and at junctions with other roads along it.

        a)

        b)

The objective of the restrictions is to reduce HGV traffic on the B3078, B3079 and B3080 across the northern part of the National Park. Although the boundary reaches the northern limit of residential development at Ringwood, this is to prevent vehicles using minor entry points into the zone such as the C159 at North Poulner.

If these roads were to be included it would allow any HGVs delivering to this large residential area to continue through the zone on minor roads and cross the National Park.

The issue of HGVs short-cutting through Northfield Road has been investigated in previous years and not found to be the case. However if the situation has changed it would need to be investigated on its own merits to determine if separate lorry control measures are justified which would need to be independent from those now proposed for north of the National Park.
