Report on the SE Hampshire /Portsmouth GCSE Interfaith Conference

Summary

1.1

This report informs SACRE of the annual summer Conference held for GCSE students of religious studies.

1.2

In previous years this conference has been an established event for Portsmouth City schools, but this year the event was extended to include Hampshire secondary school students in the South East of the county and was held at South Downs College. Jo Maule, who contributed to the organisation of the day, has provided a summary of the event ( Appendix 1).

1.3

This paper supports the Corporate Strategies (maximising well being and Hampshire safer and more secure for all) by contributing to the religious education and interfaith dialogue with young people in secondary schools.. The SE Hampshire and Portsmouth GCSE inter-faith conference addresses SACRE's responsibilities in relation to inclusion and diversity.

Recommendations

That SACRE endorses the continued provision of this annual conference for Hampshire secondary schools in partnership with Portsmouth City schools.
