Background A national review of the curriculum for secondary schools has been undertaken by the QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority). The review is now complete. The next stage is informing Head Teachers and subject associations of its recommendations. QCA have addressed all subjects through subject associations (for example, NATRE, the National Association of Teachers of RE in the case of RE) to appoint regional subject advisors. These are selected as recognised good practitioners, such as ASTs (Advanced Skills Teachers). Rebecca Costambeys, one of the Hampshire ASTs for RE in secondary schools, along with Kent and West Sussex representatives, have been appointed as advisors to the South East region which also includes Surrey and East Sussex. Through meetings with teachers in each region, the development of case studies, network meetings and the development of `compelling learning experiences', regional advisors are required to report back to the national subject advisor - Dave Francis, and to their regions. The Hampshire AST is in a very good position to share the experiences of Hampshire teachers of the enquiry approach of Living Difference and the successes of the concept led methodology for teaching and learning in RE. |
