1 Summary

1.1 The Panel agreed in May 2006 to invite the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Government Association (HIOW) to nominate a deputy for the representative on the Pension Fund Panel of the Hampshire district councils, Councillor Ian Carr of Test Valley Borough Council. The deputy representative would be invited to attend the Panel's meetings when Councillor Carr is unavailable.

1.2 This report seeks the Panel's approval of the nomination now received from HIOW of Councillor Peter Giddings.

1 Recommendations

a) That the nomination of Councillor Peter Giddings as the deputy representative of the Hampshire district councils be agreed.

b) That the remainder of the report be noted.

2 Nomination

2.1 HIOW agreed on 28 September 2007 to nominate Councillor Peter Giddings of Test Valley Borough Council to serve on the Pension Fund Panel as the deputy representative of the Hampshire district councils. Councillor Giddings is the former treasurer of Test Valley Borough Council and is now the Economic portfolio holder at Test Valley. He is a pensioner of the Hampshire Pension Fund.

2.2 If the nomination is agreed by the Panel, appropriate training opportunities will be offered to Councillor Giddings.

3 Other deputy representatives

3.1 The deputy for Councillor Jeremy Moulton of Southampton City Council as the representative of the city councils is Councillor Steve Wemyss of Portsmouth City Council. He will take over from Councillor Moulton as the representative on 1 October 2008, if he is still available, under the arrangement that the position will alternate between Southampton and Portsmouth.

3.2 At this stage, there is nothing further to report on progress since the Panel's meetings in May 2007 on identifying a deputy for the employee representative, Phillip Reynolds.
