    HEALTH OVERVIEW AND SCRUTINY COMMITTEE

    INQUIRIES RECEIVED AND ACTION TAKEN

1. The Committee continues to receive inquiries from partner organisations and County Councillors. At the last meeting Members were alerted to inquiries about:

    Access to NHS Dental Services

    The Committee received a presentation from Hampshire Primary Care

      Trust on the provision of services, NHS treatment and costs, primary dental care, oral health, dental care for and oral health of children, the demand for dental services including out of hours demand, orthodontic services and the work being carried out by the Primary Care Trust for improving and ensuring quality services in the future.

      Moorgreen Hospital

      Southampton City Primary Care Trust is now considering how facilities at Moorgreen can be developed to provide a facility for people living in the area.

      Aldershot Health Centre

      The Committee received an update on the progress of work on the new Aldershot Health Centre.

    Andover War Memorial Hospital

      Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust has confirmed its commitment to up to upgrade services at the hospital.

    Countess Mountbatten Hospice

      Representatives from Southampton University Hospitals Trust gave a presentation on the finances around the provision of services at Countess Mountbatten Hospice. They were working closely with the Friends of the Hospice and Hampshire and Southampton City Primary Care Trusts resulting in funding being secured to keep all beds open at the Hospice for the remainder of this financial year. The Hampshire and Southampton City Primary Care Trusts had prepared an action plan and were working with the Friends of the Hospice and Southampton University Hospitals Trust to secure funding for the next financial year and beyond.

    Childhood Immunisation Rates

      Information was presented on childhood immunisation rates in Hampshire. The Primary Care Trust had been asked to present the information in a District Council basis but, for the current year had been unable to do so.

    Community Hospitals

      The Primary Care Trust is continuing to explore options for services at Milford-on-Sea hospital with local stakeholders and a business case for Oak Park Hospital, Havant will be presented to the Committee in November.

      Health Services for People who are Homeless or without a Fixed Place of Residence

      Changes in the support provided to a local voluntary organisation have been raised with the Primary Care Trust.

    Local Involvement Networks (LINks)

      The Chief Executive gave details of the Department of Health guidance and expected contracting arrangements for LINks.

      Issue of Incontinent Pads to Patients
      Concern had been expressed about the practice in a care home

      restricting incontinent patients to four incontinent pads in any 24 hour period. This issue has been raised with the Primary Care Trust it would be reporting back to the Committee at its next meeting.

2. The responses made by the Committee influence and improve the delivery of Health Services in Hampshire and, in doing so, support the delivery of the Corporate Strategy aim of maximising well being.
