REPORT OF THE

EXECUTIVE LEAD MEMBER FOR CHILDREN'S SERVICES (EDUCATION)

AND EXECUTIVE MEMBER FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

SCHOOL PLACES PLAN 2007

1 The 2006 revision of the School Places Plan, which replaced the School Organisation Plan, was approved by the Executive Member for Education on 12 October 2006, following consultation with schools and other interested parties. A revised plan has now been prepared with January 2007 data, to cover the period 2007/08 to 2011/12. Copies of the draft School Places Plan were sent in June 2007 to all County Councillors, Co-opted Members of the Children and Young People Select Committee, other County Council departments, the Chief Executive and Director of Planning for each District and Borough council in Hampshire, adjoining local authorities and other organisations such as the local Learning and Skills Council.

2 The draft School Places Plan was also published on the County Council's web-site and communications sent to all headteachers and chairs of governors inviting comment. A closing date of 10 September 2007 was given for responses to be submitted. Sixteen responses were received during the consultation period and suggested revisions where appropriate were made to the draft Plan. The opportunity was also taken to make a few minor corrections and to update the names of schools where changes had been made for the new school year. The Executive Lead Member has considered and approved the proposed updated text as the new School Places Plan 2007. It has been published on the County Council's web-site and copies distributed to those who received the draft. Copies will also be placed in public libraries and in each of the Information Centres in Hampshire.

The decision provides policies to achieve the effective management of the supply of school places. This supports the County Council's Corporate Priorities.
