University of Winchester

This is the first time that this organisation has applied for revenue support to this partnership funding scheme. Working in partnership with Winchester City Council and local sports clubs (Winchester Athletics Club, Winchester Hockey Club and Winchester and District Girls Football League) the university is developing an outdoor sports facility at Bar End, Winchester. This facility includes an outdoor 400m athletics track and an all weather astro turf pitch.

To develop the use of these facilities beyond the university students the university are looking to appoint a development officer to work with clubs, local residents and countywide associations to develop and secure partnerships and sustain maximum use by the community. This funding will contribute towards this project. The local members for Winchester have been consulted.

This is the first time that this organisation has applied for revenue support to this partnership funding scheme. Sport Hampshire & IOW has been working with the Association over several months to develop a county plan that will improve the infrastructure for water sports (canoeing & sailing) throughout Hampshire and the IOW. The plan is now in place and the association, with appropriate financial support, will work to increase club membership, increase school to club as well as outdoor centre to club links, coach and volunteer development. As this is a countywide organisation, no additional consultation has taken place with County Council members.
