Background Chairpersons and support officers of SACREs from the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Hampshire and Southampton met in Southampton on 13 December 2007. Representatives from Bournemouth were also invited but were unable to attend this first meeting. It was noted that there has been successful collaboration between Portsmouth, Southampton and Hampshire in the past because of the shared agreed syllabus, but it would be good to extend this collaboration with the Isle of Wight and Bournemouth SACREs. It was also agreed that Dorset and West Sussex SACRE representatives should be invited. It was suggested that future joint meetings would be arranged towards the end of each term to discuss key issues, joint working and pooling of resources. Several suggestions for collaborative work were noted:- a) Joint recruitment and training for RE teachers of KS3 and KS4 students. b) Providing an annual conference for SACRE members and head teachers. c) Seek funding to celebrate the work of SACREs and to encourage recruitment to SACREs d) Revision of the Agreed Syllabus, Living Difference in 2009 (Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton) e) Consider the appointment of a joint post as support officer for Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton SACREs in the future. |
