Summary

1.1

This report provides a summary of the joint NASACRE (National Association of SACREs) and QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) meeting held in London on 17 January 2008.

This report supports the Corporate Strategy in terms of maximising well being,

Hampshire safer and more secure for all and enhancing our quality of place.

That SACRE notes the report and considers how initiatives reported on from this national meeting could contribute to its development plan.

Background

3.1

The Chair of SACRE and the General Inspector for RE attended the above national meeting. The agenda included an address from Jim Knight, the Minister of State for Schools and Learning Department for Children, Schools and Families, with opportunities to ask questions and put views to the Minister. There was a briefing about the continued professional development for RE in the secondary curriculum and an opportunity to discuss SACRE's reporting and evidence gathering with QCA. In the afternoon a range of workshops were offered SACRE members. The General Inspector for RE in Hampshire provided a workshop sharing Hampshire SACRE's strategies for monitoring standards in RE within Hampshire schools. A summary of key points of the day is reported in Appendix 1.
