Current Positions with the following health reviews are summarised below:
Care at End of Life
The Committee continues to maintain an active interest in Care at End of Life. Work is being taken forward by the Review Implementation Project Steering Group. The group is jointly headed by Hampshire PCT and Adult Services. Meetings are held every two months and are well attended by a wide range of stakeholders and providers. Hampshire has been asked to participate as a pilot for implementing the new Care at End of Life Pathway and has assisted the National Audit Office which is undertaking an Audit of Care at End of Life. Emerging themes that have been identified by PCTs within the South Central area and in Hampshire PCT's Development Plan include:
· Co-ordination of care
· Rapid access to care
· Supporting carers and families
· Access to training and development
· Inequitable provision
An update will be presented to the next meeting of the Committee
Out of Hours Care
Following the organisational restructuring of NHS organisations in 2006 Out of Hours Care was picked up by Hampshire PCT in a changed context. The PCT took the opportunity to take stock of the position and find a way forward, its preferred option was:
Undertake short Hampshire focussed review of current setting across 2007/08, followed by consultation with health and social partners. This in the context and setting of the developing unscheduled care strategy and the PBC agenda, core task to agree a re-design and savings plan to:
· promote the links with local health care systems
· maximise the strengths of existing local differences
· building in improved quality, equity and performance
A full report on the position with Out of Hours Care will be presented to the next meeting of the Committee
Public Health and Wellbeing
Following 2006, a year of organisational transformations in the NHS in Hampshire, Jean Bradlow was appointed in March 2007 as Director of Public Health, a joint appointment between Hampshire PCT and the County Council. Whilst the Committee maintains an interest in Public Health, because of the cross-cutting nature of Public Health and Wellbeing, it expects that issues may be taken forward as appropriate by relevant committees. It is, therefore, RECOMMENDED that work on Public Health and Wellbeing be continued by the relevant Committees with appropriate referrals to this Committee.
