Summary |

1.1 |
Crestwood College is located in a residential area of Eastleigh at Shakespeare Road and has specialist status as a Business and Enterprise College. The College has a capacity of 665 pupils and there are currently 544 pupils (11-16 years) on roll. |
1.2 |
A major project to improve sports and other curriculum facilities at the College was completed in 2006. It is now proposed to further improve the facilities by enhancing the external provision through a scheme of landscape improvements which have been developed with the College. |

The Acting Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services has progressed the design of the proposed scheme at Crestwood College for Business and Enterprise, Eastleigh and the purpose of this report is to outline and seek approval to the proposals. |
1.4 |
The proposed scheme will maximise wellbeing by providing improved external facilities for users of the College. |

Recommendation |

That the Executive Lead Member for Children's Services (Education) approves the proposals for the external landscaping scheme at Crestwood College for Business and Enterprise, Eastleigh, at an estimated total cost of £403,000, excluding fees. |

Scope of the Works |

3.1 |
The landscape improvement scheme will include the following works: · reconfiguration of parking and access to the front of the College to provide 20 additional parking spaces · improvements to path access to the rear of the classrooms to replace the existing narrow tarmac path with a wider paved path · upgrading of the existing tennis courts with replacement surfacing, drainage, fencing and gates, together with repainting of the court markings · replacement of existing STP surface

Funding and Timing |

4.1 |
Subject to the necessary approvals it is anticipated that tenders will be invited during July 2008, work will commence on site during September 2008 and be completed during March 2009. |

This investment has been made possible by the additional capital receipt income available from surplus land at this school. This also funded a major project to construct new sports, fitness and drama accommodation recently. |

Councillor Glyn Davies-Dear, the local Member, has been consulted on these proposals and has confirmed that he is fully supportive of the scheme. |
Conclusion |

The proposed external landscaping scheme will improve the parking facilities, path access to rear classrooms and tennis courts. |
