Summary |
1.1 |
Wyvern Technology College is located at Botley Road, Fair Oak. The school capacity is 1,350 and there are currently 1,311 pupils (11-16 years) on roll. A major sports development to provide a multi-purpose studio, enlarged health and fitness suite and a public entrance/reception/social area was completed in 2005. |
1.2 |
It is now proposed to construct a floodlit athletics track (`J' track). The facility will include a long-jump pit, warm-up and over-run areas. The track will be used by both the school and local community. |

The Acting Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services has progressed the design of the proposed athletics track at Wyvern Technology College, Eastleigh, and the purpose of this report is to outline and seek approval to the proposals. |

The proposed scheme will maximise wellbeing by providing additional sports facilities for use by the school and local community. |

Recommendation |
That the Executive Lead Member for Children's Services (Education) approves the scheme at Wyvern Technology College, Eastleigh, at an estimated total cost of £395,200, excluding fees. | |

Scope of the Works |
3.1 |
The work comprises construction of an all-weather rubberised running track shaped in a `J', offering a 200m athletics facility with floodlighting. The area will be fenced with 3m high weldmesh fencing with gates for maintenance access. |
3.2 |
The track will be located to the south of the existing tennis courts and will include a long-jump pit, warm-up and over-run areas. |

Funding and Timing | |

Subject to the necessary approvals it is anticipated that tenders will be invited during June 2008, work will commence on site during August 2008 and be completed during December 2008. | |

Councillor Angela Roling, the local Member, has been consulted on the proposals and has confirmed that she fully supports the scheme. | |
