The review of the joint agreed syllabus for RE, Living Difference.

Position paper

1. A mid term survey has already been carried out in Portsmouth and Hampshire through a questionnaire that was sent electronically to all schools. The focus was on the level of compliance with the syllabus and pupils' attainment as a result. The responses from Hampshire schools have been collated and reported to Hampshire SACRE (Spring 2007)) and the findings disseminated to schools via the primary and secondary RE newsletters.

2. A further survey is currently being undertaken as research which focuses on the impact of the agreed syllabus, Living Difference, on pupils' learning in RE. The researcher is in the process of visiting a sample of primary and secondary phase schools, including special schools within the three authorities. The report of her findings will inform the revision of the agreed syllabus.

3. Informal discussions have taken place with Southampton, Portsmouth and Hampshire RE managers during RE development group and steering group meetings . Relevant points and issues have been noted which will inform the review of the syllabus.

To be undertaken

1. Hampshire RE team produce proposed plan, timescale and approximate costings.

2. Plans discussed at joint SACRE meetings and amendments made.

3. Meeting of lead professionals (Sam Jordan, Georgie Mulhall, Clive Erricker, Judith Lowndes, Rebecca Costambeys, Penny Morgan) to identify specific revisions to be proposed and a timetable for the review for 2009/10 and agree publishing dates with Hampshire publishing dept

4. Proposals taken to each SACRE for endorsement.

5. Meeting of lead professionals to amend document.

6. Joint SACRE Conference 2009/10 to ratify final document as a revised agreed syllabus.
