Summary

1.1

This report provides a summary of the NASACRE (National Association of SACREs) annual general meeting held in London on 8 May 2008.

This report supports the Corporate Strategy in terms of maximising well being,

Hampshire safer and more secure for all and enhancing our quality of place.

That SACRE notes the report and considers how initiatives reported on from this national meeting could contribute to its own practice.

Background

The Chair of SACRE, the County RE Inspector and the General Inspector for RE attended the above national meeting. The agenda included an address from Karen Armstrong, a renowned and prolific author in the field of religious studies. Questions were invited from the floor.

The afternoon agenda included NASACRE business meeting and a brief progress report of the national RE strategy (see Appendix 1) and reports on young people's faith forum projects. The County Inspector for Hampshire provided a report of the social cohesion project carried out in Hampshire under this item.
