1. Summary

1.1 The following decisions are sought:

a) That tenders be invited for day care services for older people in Fareham, Gosport and Havant - two year contract from 1 September 2009 with an option to extend for two further years, one year at a time - estimated value £923,000 per annum (at June 2008 prices).

b) That the existing contracts for day care services for older people in Fareham, Gosport and Havant be extended to 31 August 2009.

2. Reason

2.1 The proposals in this report have been formulated following a review of Day Care Services for Older People in Fareham, Gosport and Havant and will provide a model of service in line with needs and demands for the foreseeable future. The tendering approach will enable these issues to be reviewed after two and three years, and facilitate a managed transfer of the existing contracts, should that be the outcome of the tendering process.

3. Links to Corporate Strategy

3.1 This report supports the Corporate Strategy aim of `Maximising Wellbeing' by improving the quality of life for older people in receipt of the services and their carers and the Corporate Strategy aim of `Safer and More Secure for All', by providing a safe and supportive environment and activities for vulnerable older people.

4. Other Options considered and rejected

4.1 No other options were considered in respect of the proposed tendering approach, having regard to European Union Directives and Single Tender Criteria approved at the Social Care Executive Decision Day on 2 April 2008.
