Update to the Policy & Resources Select Committee on the usage of the External Funding Database.
Chloe Atkins, External Funding Officer
2nd July 2008
The External Funding Officer met with the committee on 10th July 2007, to report on external funding coming into the Council. It was noted that although the uptake of funding opportunities was good, some departments were not recording the information on the External Funding Database. At this point there were 146 projects entered on to the External Funding Database.
Between 10th July 2007 and the next update to the committee on 25th January 2008 only 4 additional projects had been added to the database. The lack of utilisation of the External Funding Database was again raised as a concern.
Following the January committee meeting and the actions of its members, new `updaters' were identified for those departments without one. The new updaters received training, as did those existing updaters requiring a reminder. All departments now have a main point of contact for the External Funding Database. These are shown below:

Since the meeting of 25th January a significant improvement has been seen, with 26 projects added to the database in less than 6 months.
The next annual report of external funding is due this month and will be circulated to the committee.
Points to note:
Now that the 2007 - 2013 period for European funding is well underway and managing bodies (such as SEEDA) have finally been able to launch new programmes it is anticipated more European funding opportunities will be available.
Changes to Lottery funded programmes are expected over the next 4 years to accommodate the 2012 Olympic Games. This does not necessarily mean less money for good causes but will impact on what Hampshire County Council applies for.
