Subject: Port Master Plans - Consultation by Department for Transport

1. Summary

1.1 The Department for Transport is seeking views as to whether major ports should be required to prepare master plans for their future development, as airports are required to do. This report proposes a response by Transport for South Hampshire on behalf of the three highway authorities.

1.2 The following decision is sought:

That Transport for South Hampshire advises the Department for Transport that it supports the principle of master plans for major ports as making an important contribution to facilitating the proper planning of the local, sub-regional and regional transport networks.

2. Reason

2.1 The two ports are important to the local economy and adequate transport links to them are vital to their future vitality. Formal long term development plans will enable the future need for investment in these transport networks to be properly identified and investment programmed.

4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or Other Executive Member Consulted - None.
