This report provides a summary of the action within Hampshire in response to the Government paper The Prevent Strategy, A Guide for Local Partners in England. Stopping people becoming or supporting terrorists and violent extremists. | |

This report supports the Corporate Strategy by "Making Hampshire safer and more secure for all" - by encouraging better and more informed relations between communities and institutions "Maximising well-being" - by addressing common purpose amongst communities in Hampshire and its children "Enhancing our quality of place" - through providing support for the positive recognition of minority communities and religious groups. | |

The report supports the following Aims of the Children Act: (Being healthy; Staying safe; Enjoying and achieving; Making a positive contribution; Economic well-being) by ensuring that social cohesion is addressed in Hampshire and its neighbouring communities to enhance the safety of environments, positive relations between different groups, achievement and enjoyment of children in schools and their larger learning, improving the prospect of economic well-being for minorities of different faiths. | |

That: SACRE notes the report and responds to the questions identified by the Hampshire Prevent Strategy group. | |

Background | |
3.1 |
The Prevent Strategy group met in early September in order to consider appropriate strategies for responding to the government guide (See Appendix 1 for selected pages of the document). | |
3.2 |
Three points were identified to build a picture which demonstrates · The current level of information on and understanding of the Muslim community in Hampshire. · the level of activity by the County Council and other agencies · the level of engagement | |
3.3 |
The group asked that SACRE responds to the following questions:- · Do SACRE members feel that local government is sufficiently engaged with religious communities? · What means of further engagement would be useful to them? |
