Background

3.1

Milai Livingstone has initiated and developed this competition supported by Hampshire County Council, Hampshire Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS), the Hampshire Interfaith Network (HIN) and SACRE.

3.2

The project's aim was to involve children and young people from Hampshire primary and secondary phase schools to produce a poem, drawing, painting, photo, picture or a mixture of a poem and a drawing/painting, to represent a religious event in one month of the calendar year, for example, a festival from one of the major faiths. Pupils and students were asked to decide what they think should be the most significant events in 21st Century Britain to go in the calendar.

3.3

The project has been very well received by Hampshire schools and many entries were submitted for the calendar to be viewed by the judging panel . The Interfaith Calendar will be available for schools to buy for 2009.

3.4

Students/pupils and representatives from the winning schools will be invited to a launch of the calendar on Monday 1 December at the Winchester Discovery Centre where they will each receive a prize of £100 .
