1) Summary:

The following decision was made:

1.1. That the revised Dance Bursary Scheme be approved.

2) Reasons for the decision:

2.1. The current scheme enables very small numbers of young people to benefit.

2.2. The current scheme provides limited choice in training providers and dance forms.

2.3. The proposed new scheme will enable more young people to benefit and takes into account the changes in training opportunities and providers in the twenty first century.

3) Other options considered and rejected:

3.1. Option 1:

a) Continue the scheme as in the past - benefits very small numbers of young people in a limited range of opportunities

3.2. Option 2:

a) Cancel the scheme altogether - leaving no opportunity for the County Council to support gifted and talented young dance students

3.3. Option 3:

a) Operate the proposed new scheme which will support a larger number of students in a range of dance styles and forms who aspire to perform at elite level in the professional world of dance.
