1) Summary:

The following decision was made:

1.1. That the grant recommendations detailed in the attached report are approved to a total of £22,710. This can be met from the balance of £24,070 available within the sum of up to £40,000 earmarked in July 2007 by the Leader for Music and Dance awards, to cover the period to March 2009.

2) Reasons for the decision:

These are the reasons for this decision being made, including any links to the corporate strategy:

2.1. The awarding of such grants contributes to the corporate policy of Hampshire County Council of maximising wellbeing; the outcomes of Hampshire's Children and Young People's Plan; and the outcomes of the Every Children Matters agenda.

2.2. By supporting high achieving, gifted and talented young Hampshire musicians, the grants will support the priorities of the Children's Services Department; the Government's Music Manifesto; and will complement the investment of Hampshire Music Service in increased opportunities for younger pupils.

2.3. There are no known alternative sources of grant available to support these two opportunities for young Hampshire musicians.

3.1. Option 1:

a) Not to provide support. This would substantially restrict opportunities by the County Council to support gifted and talented young musicians.
