1) Summary

    The following decision is proposed:

1.1. That the Executive Lead Member for Children's Services (Education) agrees to the publication of Hampshire County Council's Accessibility Strategy and Special Educational Needs Policy and that they be made available to schools and other interested stakeholders.

2) Reasons for the decision

These are the reasons for this decision being made, including any links to the corporate strategy.

2.1. Hampshire County Council has a legal duty to publish an Accessibility Strategy for the schools for which it is responsible and a Special Educational Needs Policy. These contribute to the Hampshire County Council Corporate Strategy aims of `Maximising well-being' and `Hampshire safer and more secure for all' by providing frameworks within with children and young people can maximise their potential, achieve educational success and become effective members of their communities.

2.2. The current strategy and policy documents are out of date and have been reviewed. New documents have been drafted to reflect changes to legislation, local and central government initiatives and current best practice.

2.3. The draft strategy and policy documents have been widely consulted upon and have been favourably received.

3) Other options considered and rejected:

3.1. The responses received during the formal consultation were highly supportive of the draft Accessibility Strategy and Special Educational Needs Policy. In the light of this and given that the Local Authority is under a legal duty to publish a strategy and policy, no other options were considered.

4) Conflicts of Interest:

4.1. Conflicts of interest declared by the decision-maker:

    None

4.2. Conflicts of interest declared by other Executive Members consulted:

    None

5) Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee:
