Purpose of Report: Networking with local SACREs
1.1 |
This report advises SACRE about the proposed activities of the joint SACRE meetings with representatives from Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight.
2) |
Contextual Issues: | ||
2.1 |
The activities support the following Hampshire County Council priorities: "Making Hampshire safer and more secure for all" - by encouraging better and more informed relations between communities and institutions. "Maximising well-being" - by addressing common purpose amongst communities in Hampshire and its children.
3) |
Raising the profile of SACREs
3.1 |
It was suggested that the SACREs of Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton should agree on initiatives to raise awareness in schools of SACREs and their work. The initiatives are:
a. b. c. |
Planning a SACRE logo competition for schools This group decided that it would be appropriate to organise a competition for all year groups from Year R to Key Stage 4, with an unlimited number of entries per school. The competition entry form could contain some information about the SACRE (possibly some of the information contained in the pamphlet could be used). It would be of black and white with one other colour. There would be prizes as follows - £100 to the winning school, £50 for the first child, £25 for the second child and £15 for the third child. The competition would be judged by one member from each SACRE plus Judith Lowndes and Georgina Mulhall. The competition would be launched on 20 April 2009 and the deadline for entries would be 27 May with prize giving on 10 July. Ideas for the design of a SACRE website At the group's suggestion, David Vane, a Southampton representative, agreed to manage the website. It was agreed to get representatives from the Hampshire and Portsmouth SACREs to support David in the formation of a website team. It was further agreed that this should be an agenda item for the next meeting. "What can your local SACRE do for you?" - design a pamphlet The group agreed that the intended audience for the pamphlet would be school colleagues, parents, religious "meeting places" and faith leaders. It was suggested that members of SACREs could design and produce the pamphlet. It was suggested that the pamphlet could be distributed in schools, places of worship, community locations and clinics, libraries, surgeries etc. The group felt that the cost would be fairly minimal, only the cost of printing. Peter Davies agreed to co-ordinate the production of the pamphlet.
4) |
Review of the Agreed Syllabus for Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton
4.1 |
Judith Lowndes circulated details at the meeting of the funding and timescale proposals for the joint review of the agreed syllabus. It was agreed to take the details of the suggested costings and timescale to the Portsmouth and Southampton SACREs and to report to the next meeting of the joint group in April.
5) |
Recommendations: That SACRE endorses the proposals:
5.1 |
To raise the profile of the work of SACREs by supporting the initiatives suggested.
5.2 |
To pursue the review of a joint agreed syllabus
