Purpose of Report:

1.1

To inform SACRE of the activities and findings of the Monitoring Sub Group.

Contextual Issues

2.1

This paper supports the Corporate Strategy (maximising well being) by ensuring children's provision in religious education is secure.

3)

Qualitative Survey into the impact of the agreed syllabus, Living Difference

3.1

Katherine Wedell has been conducting qualitative research into the impact of the syllabus Living Difference on children's attainment RE. During the meeting she presented her findings which focussed on five areas

· Planning

· Progress

· Assessment

· Attainment

· Training

3.2

Her findings indicate that Living Difference has made a positive impact on RE in the schools within her research, in all five areas of investigation.

3.3

Katherine shared her conclusions of the report with the group and asked the group for their comments and responses. A summary of the conclusions is provided (tabled at the meeting).

Self Evaluation forms (SEFs) completed by schools

4.1

The group had insufficient time to scrutinise some of the SEFs provided by schools on the provision of RE. This activity will be re-scheduled for the next meeting.

5)

SACRE members' visits to schools for monitoring the RE provision

5.1

Six members of SACRE have attended a one day training session about the agreed syllabus and good practice in schools provided by the RE team. Arrangements have been made for those SACRE members to visit ten primary phase schools in the Spring term and report to the monitoring sub group.

Recommendation: That SACRE notes the report
