1) The Decision:

1.1. That Public notices be published, in accordance with Sections 10 and 15 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 for the closure of Yateley Infant School and St. Peter's CE VA Junior School, Yateley, with effect from 31 August 2010 and the establishment of a new one form entry voluntary controlled Church of England Primary School, in the current premises of Yateley Infant School, with effect from 1 September 2010.

1.2. That discussions continue to agree a suitable site and/or buildings for the relocation of Footprints Pre-school.

1.3. That it be a recommendation to the Executive Member for Policy and Resources that, subject to market conditions, 100% of the capital receipt from the sale of the St. Peter's CE VA Junior School site be used for implementing this strategy.

2) Reasons for the decision

These are the reasons for this decision being made, including any links to the corporate strategy.

2.1. These proposals are put forward in order to address the surplus capacity at the schools and to provide an appropriate school organisation to meet the need for primary education in the local area.

3) Other options considered and rejected:

3.1. To amalgamate the two schools using the St Peter's building.

This will require a further round of consultations, thereby prolonging the period of uncertainty and would not be affordable in view of the significant cost of using the St Peter's building. Both Yateley Community Playgroup and Footprints Pre-School would need to be relocated.

    3.2. Not to proceed.

This would not address the surplus places issue. The schools would continue to be vulnerable to the impact of falling rolls and may not be viable in the longer term.

4) Conflicts of Interest:

4.1. Conflicts of interest declared by the decision-maker:

    None

4.2. Conflicts of interest declared by other Executive Members consulted:

    None

5) Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee:

    None

6) Any reasons for the matter being dealt with if urgent :

    None
