1) The following decisions were made :

 

    1.1. That the Executive Member for Education approves consultations during the Summer term 2009 with parents, staff, governors and other interested parties on the possible closure of Barncroft Infant and Barncroft Junior schools, Leigh Park, Havant, and the creation of a 420 place (two forms of entry) 4-11 primary school with the continuation of early years' provision on the Barncroft site.

 

    1.2. That a report on the outcomes of the consultations be presented in October 2009.

 

2) Reasons for the decision

    These are the reasons for this decision being made, including any links to the corporate strategy.

    2.1. To accede to the governing bodies' joint request to seek views on whether a primary school would best serve the needs of the local community and enhance pupils' opportunities to maximise well-being.

    2.2. To identify local priorities for extended services which might be provided as a result of amalgamating Barncroft Infant and Junior schools, thereby offering scope to maximise well-being within the community and enhancing the quality of place.

3) Other options considered and rejected:

 

    3.1. Option 1: Not to accede to the governing bodies' request to consult on a proposed amalgamation of Barncroft Infant and Junior schools.

    a) Risk Assessment: The schools' communities would be denied the opportunity to consider and put forward their views on whether a primary school, rather than separate infant and junior schools, would better suit their needs.
