1. The decision:

a) That approval be given to the following proposal, published by the local authority, in accordance with Section 15 (1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006:

To discontinue Yateley Infant School and St Peter's Church of England Aided Junior School with effect from 31 August 2010.

b) That approval be given to the following proposal, published by the Diocese of Winchester, in accordance with Section 10 (2) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006:

To establish a new voluntary controlled primary school in the current premises of Yateley Infant School with effect from 1 September 2010.

2. Reason(s) for the decision:

2.1. The proposal will lead to improvements in the standard, quality and range of educational provision for all pupils.

2.2. The level of surplus places, and sustained fall in numbers in the schools give rise to concern in relation to the maintenance of high quality curriculum delivery. In line with the DCSF guidance on closing a maintained mainstream school and establishing a new school, the local authority has considered the future of the schools and considers that amalgamation would result in a more efficient targeting of resources and better opportunities for pupils in the area.

3. Other options considered and rejected:

3.1. To reject the proposals would perpetuate the difficulties that the separate schools will face to maintain high quality curriculum delivery in the face of reduced numbers on roll.

4. Conflicts of interest:

4.1. Conflicts of interest declared by the decision-maker:

    None

4.2. Conflicts of interest declared by other Executive Members consulted:

    None

5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee: none.

6. Reason(s) for the matter being dealt with if urgent: not applicable.
