Amalgamation of Yateley Infant School and St Peter's CE Aided Junior School

Notice is given in accordance with section 15(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that Hampshire County Council, The Castle, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 8UG intends to discontinue Yateley Infant School, Cranford Park Drive, Yateley, Hampshire GU46 6LB and St Peter's Church of England Aided Junior School, Stilwell Close, Yateley, Hampshire GU46 6XH on 31 August 2010.

Places will be available for pupils affected by the closure of these schools (including those with special educational needs), who are not transferring to secondary education in September 2010, at the new voluntary controlled primary school to be established on the site of Yateley Infant School in September 2010 in accordance with the related proposals set out below. There will be no alteration to transport arrangements for pupils currently attending the schools.

Notice is also given that The Diocese of Winchester, Education Department, First Floor, Peninsular House, Wharf Road, Portsmouth PO2 8HB intends to establish a new Voluntary Controlled Primary School under section 10(2) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006. The Secretary of State's consent has been obtained in order to publish this proposal. It is proposed that the new school will open on 1 September 2010.

The school will be situated on the site of Yateley Infant School, Cranford Park Drive, Yateley, Hampshire GU46 6LB and will serve the area currently served by Yateley Infant and St Peter's CE Aided Junior Schools. The ethos of the school will be a community school with a religious character. The proposed school will have a Church of England religious character and it is confirmed that the proposer intends to ask the Secretary of State to designate the school as a school with such a religious character.

The new school will cater for pupils between the ages of 4 and 11 and provide places for 210 boys and girls. The admission number for the school on the opening date will be 30. Pupils will be admitted to the school in accordance with the local authority's admissions policy, published each year before the date on which applications must be submitted; this includes details of the criteria to be applied in the event of over-subscription. No specific priority will be given to applications for admission on denominational grounds. Transport will be provided for any pupils who qualify under the local authority's published policy.

All applicable statutory requirements to consult in relation to these proposals have been complied with.
