1) Purpose of Report: Revision of SACRE's Constitution
1.1. This report provides suggested amendments to Hampshire SACRE's Constitution.
2) Contextual Issues:
2.1. This report supports the Corporate Strategy (maximising well being) by ensuring children's provision in religious education is secure.
2.2. This report is in response to concerns raised at SACRE for the need to review the Constitution.
3) The paper
3.1 Since the original production of the Hampshire SACRE constitution a number of changes have taken place within education as a result of guidance from DCSF (the Department for children, schools and families) and QCA (Qualifications and curriculum authority). QCA has also provided useful guidance to support the annual analysis and report of SACRE's activities. In the light of these changes it was felt that a review of the current constitution was required to enable SACRE to carry out its statutory duties effectively.
3.2 The chair of SACRE and the two SACRE support officers, in consultation with the County solicitor, have provided some suggested amendments (Appendix 1)
4) Conclusions: That SACRE recommends that the revised document be sent to the Executive Member for Education for approval.
