1) Purpose of Report: Networking with local SACREs

1.1. This report advises SACRE about the proposed activities of the joint SACRE meetings with representatives from Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight

2) Contextual Issues:

2.1 The activities support the following Hampshire County Council

    priorities:

"Making Hampshire safer and more secure for all" - by

encouraging better and more informed relations between

communities and institutions.

"Maximising well-being" - by addressing common purpose

amongst communities in Hampshire and its children

3) A Representative from NASACRE

3.1 The group had invited a member of the National Association of SACREs to attend the meeting. Tristam Jenkins attended and made useful contributions to the discussions from his broader view of the work of SACREs nationally. He was pleased to see that the joint SACREs were working collaboratively and was interested to hear about the activities of the group. He was warmly thanked for his contributions and for taking the trouble to travel a long way in order to attend the meeting.

4) A protocol for the joint SACREs

4.1. It was agreed that the SACREs of Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton should share and agree on certain protocols regarding press releases or contentious issues raised in relation to RE in the three authorities. The authorities share a syllabus and can benefit from a close partnership and discussions between neighbours. Chairs of SACRE will communicate with each other should issues arise between SACRE meetings.

5) Raising the Profile of SACRE

5.1 It was agreed that the "Create a logo for SACRE" competition is shelved until a later date as there is a community cohesion calendar competition in Hampshire schools currently underway.

5.2 There was discussion regarding a joint website which would have sub- sections for the three authorities. It was felt that the website would be valuable as a vehicle of good practice to give an area-wide perspective and to share teaching resources and best practice. There was also discussion regarding the branding of ` Living Difference' and explaining the work of the joint and individual SACREs.

5.3 Draft copies of a leaflet aimed at schools and faith groups explaining the work of the SACREs were shared at the meeting for discussion and feedback at the next meeting.

6)

Review of the Agreed Syllabus for Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton.

6.1

Portsmouth and Southampton SACRE had not yet held an Agreed Syllabus Conference in each authority and the ratification of the proposed time scale and costing of the review of Living Difference has yet to be confirmed.

7)

Conclusions: That SACRE notes the report and endorses the proposals .

7.1

to raise the profile of the work of SACREs by continuing to support the initiatives suggested.

7.2

to pursue the review of a joint agreed syllabus
