1. The decision:

a) That approval be given to the sale of Fort Gilkicker, Alverstoke on the basis set out in the report and on other detailed terms and conditions to be settled by the Director of Property Business and Regulatory Services (Strategic Manager - Assets and Development).

2. Reasons for the decision:

2.1. The preferred purchaser is proposing a highly innovative and exciting scheme which will see the full restoration of this important historic building. The proposals will bring the redundant building back into use, with the whole scheme designed to the highest environmental standards and with sustainability at the forefront of the project.

2.2. The project fully supports the County Council's corporate priorities. In terms of making Hampshire safer and more secure for all, bringing the building into use will remove the current health and safety risks associated with this vulnerable vacant building. The very high standard of restoration and conversion proposed, which incorporates best practice in terms of sustainability, will ensure that our quality of place is significantly enhanced.

3.1. Cease negotiations with the preferred purchaser and retain the property, pending improvement in market conditions.

3.2. Cease negotiations with the preferred purchaser and remarket the property.
