AT A MEETING of the APPOINTMENT PANEL of the COUNTY COUNCIL held at The Castle, Winchester on Friday 18 September 2009.

1 APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE

No apologies were received under this item.

2 DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

Members were mindful that, where they believed they had a personal or personal prejudicial interest in any matter to be considered at the meeting, they should normally at the time of the debate, declare their interest and, having regard to the circumstances described in paragraphs 9, 10, 11 and 12 of the County Council's Code of Conduct, consider whether to leave the meeting whilst the matter was discussed.

3 APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRMAN

RESOLVED:

That Councillor T.K. Thornber, CBE be appointed Chairman of the Panel.

4 EXCLUSION OF THE PRESS AND PUBLIC

RESOLVED:

That, by virtue of paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public were excluded from the meeting.

5 APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT DIRECTORS OF CULTURE, COMMUNITIES AND RURAL AFFAIRS (EXEMPT)

The Panel considered the confidential details of short-listed candidates for three posts of Assistant Director of Culture, Communities and Rural Affairs. They received a presentation from the Director of Culture, Communities and Rural Affairs prior to interviewing the candidates.

After full consideration it was

RESOLVED:

That the Panel approved the appointments of Nicola Horsey - Assistant Director (Libraries & Information), John Tickle - Assistant Director (Arts, Heritage, Countryside and Rural Affairs) and Mike Wickenden - Assistant Director (Communities).
