1. The decision: (PROPOSED)

a) That approval is given to consultations taking place with parents, staff, the school's interim executive board and other interested parties on the proposal to close Chineham Park Primary School with effect from 31 August 2010.

b) That a report on the outcome of consultations be prepared for submission in December 2009.

2. Reason(s) for the decision:

2.1. The school was inspected by Ofsted in January 2009 and was judged to be inadequate and requiring Special Measures because it is failing to give its pupils an acceptable standard of education. In such circumstances the local authority is required to consider the scope for closure of the school and for pupils to transfer to alternative schools offering an acceptable standard of education.

2.2. There are a number of primary, infant and junior schools in close proximity which could accommodate Chineham Park Primary School children, all of which are judged to be satisfactory or better by Ofsted.
