1) Purpose of Report: Networking with local SACREs
1.1. This report advises SACRE about the proposed activities of the joint SACRE meetings with representatives from Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight
2) Contextual Issues:
2.1 The activities support the following Hampshire County Council
priorities:
"Making Hampshire safer and more secure for all" - by
encouraging better and more informed relations between
communities and institutions.
"Maximising well-being" - by addressing common purpose
amongst communities in Hampshire and its children
3) Terms of reference protocols for the joint SACREs
Terms of reference and protocols regarding arrangements for joint meetings were discussed and agreed. (Appendix 1)
4) Raising the Profile of SACRE
4.1 There was discussion regarding the development of the proposed joint website which is to have sub-sections for the three authorities. It was felt that the website would be valuable as a vehicle of good practice to give an area-wide perspective and to share teaching resources and best practice. Unfortunately, the website designer is no longer able to offer his services. A Portsmouth representative is going to pursue alternative arrangements.
4.2 Amended copies of the leaflet aimed at schools and faith groups explaining the work of the SACREs were not available but will be made available at the next meeting.
5) Updates from the authorities
5.1 Each authority shared initiatives and news:-
Isle of Wight SACRE has arranged for an Anne Frank Exhibition at the Roman Villa in Brading and will be available for schools from the mainland to visit. Details will be forwarded via Lilian Weatherley
Portsmouth SACRE ran a development day for SACRE members and head teachers which was well attended and worthwhile.
A Jewish Way of Life Exhibition is being held at Portsmouth Museum from 1st-21st July 2010
Bournemouth SACRE has vacancies for councillors. Bournemouth SACRE are preparing to review their Agreed syllabus in 2010.
6) Prevent/Community Cohesion
6.1 The RE Inspector for Hampshire provided an update about national strategies and funding available to support community cohesion and the Prevent Strategy.
7) Conclusions: That SACRE notes the report.
