1) Purpose of Report:
1.1. This report provides SACRE with the training programme that is Offered by NASACRE (National Association of SACREs)
2) Contextual Issues:
2.1. This paper supports the Corporate Strategy (maximising well being) by ensuring children's provision in religious education is secure.
2.2. The meeting held in London explaining the programme was attended by the Chair of SACRE and a supporting officer to SACRE.
3) The Programme for Recruitment and Training of SACRE members:
3.1 The meeting held on the 23rd September provided an overview of the training held the previous year and the plans to provide similar training over the next academic year
3.2 SACREs all over the country have expressed concerns about recruiting and sustaining membership of SACRE members within group A (Non C of E Christian denominations and other faith representatives). The programme set up by NASACRE has been backed by government funding and has the task of identifying and recruiting representatives to SACREs and providing training to enable them to make a worthwhile contribution to their local SACRE. Recruitment has been successful and new SACRE members who have attended training have given very positive feedback about their experiences.
3.3 Two full days training were provided and arrangements were made to visit a local school to observe RE lessons and to observe a SACRE meeting of another local authority.
3.4 A one day conference was arranged for training of other SACRE members but recruitment was very disappointing.
4) Conclusions: That SACRE notes the report and agrees to submit vacancies to NASACRE with a view to recruitment and training of new members .
