1) The Decision: |
||
1.1. That the Strategies for the Development of Literature and the Visual Arts for the period 2009 - 12 are approved.
2) Reasons for the decision
2.1 In March 2006 The County Council adopted a strategy for the arts for the period 2006 -11
2.2 The strategy recognised that the County had a thriving arts infrastructure but that there were areas of under representation on both developmental terms and presence within the county 2.3 Within the list of under representation were the areas of Literature and the Visual Arts.
2.4 The proposed strategies are directed at mitigating this position and providing positive support in these two important areas of the arts.
3) Other options considered and rejected:
3.1. Option 1: | ||
Not to adopt a strategy. - rejected. Not addressing the development of these cultural forms leaves a significant sector of cultural industries practitionersin the County most of whom operate as small or micro businesses without appropriate support, It also leaves the cultural infrastructure weaker than it could be and opens up the possibility that significant opportunities to raise the profile of Hampshire as the Cultural County of the South are missed.
4) Conflicts of Interest:
4.1. Conflicts of interest declared by the decision-maker: None 4.2. Conflicts of interest declared by other Executive Members consulted: None
