1. The decision: (PROPOSED)

a) That approval is given to consultations taking place with parents, staff and other interested parties on the proposed changes to children's centres.

b) That a report on the outcome of consultations be prepared for submission in March 2010.

2. Reason(s) for the decision:

2.1. Hampshire County Council is required to review children's centre provision in the county following updated guidance provided by Together for Children the Government agents overseeing the development of children's centres.

2.2. Hampshire County Council currently provides a greater number of full core offer (30% model) children's centres than the number required.

2.3. There are a number of children's centres with notional catchment areas considerably smaller than the size recommended by The Department for Children, Schools and Families.

3. Other options considered and rejected:

3.1. Not to consult on the proposed changes to children's centres.

3.2. To make changes to children's centres managed by third party organisations.
