1. The decision:

a) That Councillor Felicity Hindson be appointed as the County Council's representative on the South Downs National Park Authority.

b) That the County Council makes all possible representations to Parliament to increase the number of representatives of Local Authorities on the South Downs National Park Authority.

2. Reason for the decision:

2.1. The County Council is invited by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural affairs to appoint one Member to the South Downs National Park Authority.

3. Other options considered and rejected:

3.1. Not to appoint a Member from Hampshire County Council to sit on the South Downs National Park Authority. This was rejected as not providing local communities within those areas of Hampshire inside the National Park with a local representation on the Park Authority, and, as a consequence, engendering a democratic deficit.
