Is your setting able to give all the support the child or young person needs?
Your setting already has allocated resource for children with SEN to put in place specific support to meet their needs. This will be equal to the first £6,000 of SEN Support in an academic year per child or young person.
Each child or young person's SEN Support Plan should relate to your setting's provision map to show how these existing resources have been used.
Each child or young person's SEN Support Plan will show their outcomes relevant to their need. Outcomes in SEN Support Plans should be what the child or young person can achieve in the next 2-3 years. Achieving these outcomes will help the child or young person on their journey towards their aspirations.
An example and definition of a provision map can be found in the guidance.
An EHC assessment is for children and young people whose needs are significant and long term, and when the education setting can't meet them with their ordinarily available resources. This includes using a SEN Support Plan.
If the child or young person is making good progress using your setting's current resources, then your request may not be able to proceed.
You can choose to find out your next steps anyway.
If you feel the child or young person is not making progress or that they are not getting enough support, explore if the support in place is working for the child or young person. They might benefit from a different type of support.
If you have explored all options within your available resources and still feel the child is not making progress, this might be a good time to request an EHC assessment. Read the guidance on the Local Offer about what documents you need to request the EHC assessment.
We need to make an informed decision based on evidence describing a child's needs, support, progress and outcomes. This enables fair decision-making. You should carefully review your request before submitting and discuss concerns or questions with the Hampshire Special Educational Needs (SEN) Service.
