Our priorities

Improving accessibility is a shared responsibility between Hampshire County Council, education settings, partners, children, young people and families.

These priorities focus on the three statutory areas of accessibility, together with ensuring fair and accessible admissions, so that children and young people with SEND can participate, belong and achieve.

Priority 1: Access to the curriculum

Hampshire County Council: We'll provide strategic leadership, guidance, training, specialist support, and resources to help settings meet a wide range of needs.

Schools/settings: We'll deliver inclusive teaching, make reasonable adjustments, involve children and families in decision-making, and ensure pupils can access the curriculum and wider opportunities.

Priority 2: Access to the physical environment

Hampshire County Council: We'll support accessibility improvements through capital programmes, specialist advice, and partnership working.

Schools/setting: We'll regularly review accessibility, remove barriers where possible, and plan for the needs of current and future pupils.

Priority 3: Access to information

Hampshire County Council: We'll ensure information, guidance, and services are available in accessible formats and support settings to improve communication.

Schools/setting:We'll provide clear, accessible information and use a range of communication approaches to meet individual needs.

Priority 4: Fair and accessible admissions

Hampshire County Council: We'll provide clear admissions processes, and information, supporting families to make informed choices.

Schools/setting: We'll ensure admissions visits, open events, and transition activities are accessible and responsive to individual needs.

Enabling the delivery of our priorities

The successful delivery of this strategy relies on effective partnership working, appropriate resources, skilled staff and continuous improvement. The following table summarises the key enablers of delivery.

Funding and resources

Hampshire County Council: We'll provide guidance on funding routes, specialist support, and capital investment.

Schools/settings: We'll use available resources effectively to support inclusion, accessibility, and reasonable adjustments.

Workforce development

Hampshire County Council: We'll provide training, professional development, and access to specialist support.

Schools/settings: We'll ensure staff have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to deliver inclusive practice.

Partnership working

Hampshire County Council: We'll work across education, health, and care services to coordinate support and improve outcomes.

Schools/settings: We'll work collaboratively with families and partners to deliver joined-up support.

Monitoring and improvement

Hampshire County Council: We'll monitor implementation of the strategy and review progress.

Schools/settings: We'll review Accessibility Plans regularly and use feedback to drive continuous improvement.
