Hampshire County Council Occupational Health and Wellbeing team only screen medical questionnaires once an applicant has been offered the role, prior to them commencing in the role, to avoid discrimination on medical grounds. If an applicant flags up any health issues, we will advise management on suitable adjustments to help address any potential barriers to performance. The manager can then make a decision whether the recommendations are reasonable within their operational setting.

We work on the principle of trust, in the first instance believe the health status an individual is declaring and will only contact an individual’s GP in very rare circumstances. The cost of any medical report required, will be the responsibility of the recruiting manager. Only fitness information will be disclosed to a manager, unless we have the explicit consent from the individual.
