Guest access

If you have a visitor who needs access to the internet, they can use guest access to Hantsnet Wireless.
Hantsnet Wireless provides wireless hotspots which allow you to connect wirelessly to the internet.
Can I use Hantsnet Wireless guest access?
To access the internet with guest access you will need:
- to be near a Wireless Hotspot
- have access to a computer, laptop or mobile device with a browser and wireless capability
- a guest user ID and passport (these are changed weekly).

Connect Windows XP
The following instructions cover how to connect to the wireless network for a laptop or netbook. This is general guidance, you might have to refer to your device documentation for further instructions.
1. Switch on the laptop or netbook and make sure that wireless is switched on
2. Your device will search for wireless networks and you will see a message similar to the one below
3. Click on the message and a list of the available networks will be displayed
4. Click on Guest.internet to select it and then on Connect
5. If you see the message below, click on Connect Anyway (don’t worry, your session will be secure as you still need to enter a password to view data, see Login tab)
6. You will now be connected to the guest wireless network, see the following pages for information on logging in to the network.
- Windows Vista

These instructions are taken from Windows Vista Business. The instructions might vary if you use 3rd party software to manage the wireless connection. Please consult the manufacturer instructions if you require guidance on this software.
1. Ensure your wireless network adapter is enabled on your device
If you require assistance with this step, please refer to the manufacturer’s manual/documentation
2. Double click the wireless icon on the task bar to open the Connect to a Network box
3. Select the Guest.internet
4. Click Connect
You might need to scroll through the options to locate the correct network
The warning Information sent over the network might be visible to others is normal and you should continue to connect. If you are handing sensitive information for work purposes, always use Employee.hantsnet or Employee.selfservice
5. A status box will appear to show the network connection is being established
6. Once the network has connected, a box showing Successfully connected to Guest.internet will be displayed
7. You can choose to save the network if you wish to connect again at a later date
8. Following a short wait, the connection will establish
9. You might see a box top up asking to Select a location for the Guest.internet network, select Public location
10. You are now connected to the wireless network and are able to launch your internet browser. See the Learn.IT sections Password and Login for further information.

These instructions are taken from Windows 7 Enterprise. The instructions might vary if you use 3rd party software to manage the wireless connection. Please consult the manufacturer instructions if you require guidance on this software.
1. Ensure your wireless network adapter is enabled on your device

2. Double click the wireless icon on the task bar to open the Connect to a Network box
3. Click Guest.internet
4. Click Connect
You might need to scroll through the options to locate the connect network

5. You will see a status box indicating that the network is establishing a connection
6. Once the network has connected, Guest.internet will be highlighted and will show Connected next to the signal indicator
7. Following a short wait, the connection will establish. You might see a box top up asking to Select a location for the Guest.internet network. On this screen select Public location
8. You will now see a balloon titled Additional log on information may be required on the task bar. Click this balloon to open your browser and authenticate with the guest username and password. See the Learn.IT sections Password and Login for further information.

Connect Windows 8
The screenshots below are taken from Windows 8.1, but the steps apply to Windows 8.
1. Click on the wireless connection icon on the bottom right hand corner of the task bar (close to the clock)
2. A networks list will be displayed, showing available wireless networks in range.
3. Click on the network Guest.internet
4. Click Connect. If you wish to automatically connect when in range, tick the Connect Automatically option
5. The screen will indicate the connection is being established
6. Your internet browser will automatically be launched prompting for the guest username and password credentials. See the following pages for information on logging in to the network.
- Apple iPad and iPhone

Connect Apple IOS (iPad & iPhone)
The screenshots below are taken from an iPad (IOS 7), but the same steps would apply to an iPhone.
1. Tap on the Settings icon on your home screen
2. Tap on Wi-Fi in the menu, the Wi-Fi Networks information will open
3. A list of all the networks that your device can locate will be displayed
4. Find Guest.internet in the list and tap on it to connect to the network
5. Once the wireless connection has been established, you will see a tick next to the Guest.internet network.
6. A window will automatically prompt you for the guest Username and Password credentials. See the following tab for information on logging in to the network.

If you want to access the internet using guest access for Hantsnet Wireless you need a username and password to login.
The username and password can be found in Hantsnet on the Wireless Guest Access Passwords page (someone with access to Hantsnet will need to get this for you, ask someone in the building or at reception for this).
Please note that the password is changed weekly.

1. After connecting to the guest wireless network, open your browser
2. As soon as you try to open a website you will see the following screen
3. Type in the guest User ID and Password (see Password)
4. Click Login.
