Planning Scholarship Programme
If you are undertaking a BSc or BA Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or Geology degree and are on target to achieve a minimum of an upper second class honours degree (2:1 or higher), we have a fantastic opportunity for you to gain relevant work experience and get paid at the same time.
Work place opportunities
We are offering successful candidates summer work placements, the opportunity of an industrial placement year and potentially long-term employment once you graduate.
You will benefit from improving your soft skills, like teamwork and time management, as well as your technical knowledge of planning and other related disciplines such as landscape, ecology, flood and water management, and highways. And you’ll be able to show and record your professional development.
If you are selected for our Planning Scholarship Programme, you’ll get a paid summer and industrial year placements (pro rata to our usual salary range for this role, currently £23,115 to £24,140 per annum). There is also an opportunity for a bursary of £1,650 a year upon completion of the first successful summer placement, if you are then accepted on the programme.
Our work
Hampshire County Council is a top performing local authority, with an important role in promoting economic prosperity and protecting the environment, developing the infrastructure and services required for economic and transport growth and planning.
We are the Planning Authority for County Council developments (such as assisted residential developments, highway schemes, schools), minerals and waste developments, determining planning applications for such developments in the County Council’s administrative area.
We are also responsible for preparing, implementing and monitoring the Hampshire Minerals Waste Plan.
Our team also sits alongside the Lead Local Flood Authority, delivering consenting and strategic policy for flood and water management for the residents of Hampshire.

We have offices throughout Hampshire as well as projects in remote locations, so the ability to drive is a key attribute, with access to a car also desirable.
