Our benefits
Working in a school in Hampshire will be the first step to you experiencing a strong supportive network of a family of schools.
When you work for a Hampshire school, you can expect:
- Support from experienced and knowledgeable educationalists via Hampshire Improvement and Advisory Service (HIAS).
- Networks and supportive links for ECTs, subject specialists, and SENCOs.
- Curriculum centres stocked with resources to assist with subject planning and knowledge.
- A vast range of professional learning programmes and resources for each stage of your career from Hampshire Teaching and Leadership College, focusing on evolving your teaching practice and developing your skills.

Pensions
Teachers are eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS) and support staff are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
Whilst you would need to make contributions as a member, both schemes are the most valuable benefits that can be provided by schools for their staff. Here's why:
- A secure, guaranteed pension - your pension is based on your salary and length of service, not investment or market performance. This means you’ll have security and a reliable income in retirement.
- Employer contributions - schools will contribute a significant amount towards your pension – much more than most private schemes. This helps your retirement savings grow faster. For full-time teachers on the main to upper pay range, this is equivalent to £10,000-£15,000 per year and for full-time support staff this is worth a minimum of £4,500 and will be more depending on grade.
- Tax-efficient savings - your contributions are taken before tax, reducing your taxable income and making saving for retirement more affordable.
- Family protection - the schemes provide benefits for your loved ones if you die in service and support if you become too ill to continue to work.
- Flexible retirement options - you can choose when to take your pension (subject to scheme rules), giving you control over your future.
- Peace of mind - the TPS is a statutory scheme and the LGPS is backed by law and managed by local government. Both ensure stability and security for your retirement .
