School support roles in Hampshire schools
Schools rely on a wide team of dedicated staff working alongside pupils to create a safe, supportive learning environment.

Classroom support
Classroom Assistant or Pupil Welfare Assistant
These roles involve working under the direction of a qualified teacher to support learning of the children in the classroom. Role titles may include Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.
Business, finance and administration
Business Manager, Finance Officer, Administrative Officer
Schools are complex organisations and the levels of administrative support they require reflect this complexity. Roles range from front office to strategic senior management. It is not unusual for business managers to be members of the senior leadership team of the school. Administrative/Finance Officers in schools can have frequent contact with headteachers, governors, parents, teachers, school visitors and, of course, children.

Site and premises roles
Site Manager or Site Assistant
Site and premises staff play an essential role in ensuring that the school environment is clean, safe and tidy for children to learn and staff to work. The best teaching in the world can come to naught if the learning environment is not conducive to learning.
Lunchtime and catering roles
Lunchtime Supervisory Assistant
Lunchtime roles, which are most often found in primary schools, are crucial to the effective functioning of a school.
An effective lunchtime is essential if the first lesson of the afternoon is to be productive. Children need to have recharged their batteries both in terms of eating their lunch and also letting off steam after the efforts of the morning. Lunchtime Supervisory Assistants supervise pupils over this important period of the school day, engaging with pupils to ensure they have an enjoyable break. This will also involve dealing with behaviour and welfare issues as they arise in the dinner hall and playground.
These roles are normally term time only which can be an attraction.
