Supporting growth: Workforce Development and CPD for Occupational Therapists
Occupational therapy principles underpin our services. We continually seek opportunities to enhance service delivery and prioritise the personal development of all staff. Our structured workforce development plan actively encourages and supports continuing professional development, including formal qualifications.
A supported start to your career as an Occupational Therapist
For newly registered occupational therapists, stepping into your first role can be both exciting and challenging. We’re committed to helping newly qualified staff build strong, confident foundations for their careers. Our Preceptorship Programme is designed to guide you through this transition with structured learning, regular reflective practice and tailored support from experienced practitioners.
The programme is open to occupational therapists across Adults’ Health and Care and Children’s Services, and provides:
- Career development.
- A clear development framework tailored to your clinical role.
- Regular supervision, reflection and learning opportunities.
- Guidance from experienced senior practitioners.
- Structured support to build confidence, autonomy and professional identity.
By investing in early career development, we’re helping occupational therapists feel supported from day one - empowering you to provide the best possible outcomes for the people and communities we serve in Hampshire.
Career progression
Within the Reablement Service, our occupational therapists can progress to roles such as Advanced Practitioners and Lead Occupational Therapist. These positions support excellent standards of practice across the Reablement Service and the wider department, guided by the four pillars of professional practice: facilitation of learning, leadership and education, research, and development (Royal College of Occupational Therapists, 2021).
Apprenticeships opportunities
For staff aspiring to become registered occupational therapists, we offer support to complete a four-year apprenticeship in Occupational Therapy.
