Career routes
Whether you're already qualified or you're looking to join us as an unqualified social work practitioner, we have roles for all. For our unqualified roles, it's not essential to have experience in a social care role, you may have developed relevant skills through work experience in other sectors, such as hospitality, retail or volunteering. You may even have experiences in your personal life that have helped develop the skills we need. What's important, is that you can work compassionately with people in difficult circumstances.
Unqualified social work practitioners
Joining us as an assistant case worker (Physical Disabilities Deaf Services), case worker or senior case worker can lead to a fantastic career in Adults’ Health and Care. Our experienced case workers and senior case workers can be considered for our social work apprenticeship scheme, which is currently run by the University of Winchester, leading to a career as a qualified social worker.
Newly Qualified Social Worker
Newly qualified social workers are supported to undertake their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).
Qualified social work practitioners
Social workers have opportunities to further progress their career in a number of fields:
Senior Social Worker
The 'Excellent Practice Validation' framework enables annual evaluation of practice that supports professional development. Social workers with an ‘achieving excellent practice’ outcome can be considered for a senior social worker role. Senior social workers receive a market supplement. In our hospital teams we have assistant team managers instead of senior social workers.
Approved Mental Health Professional
Work with other social/health care professionals to complete assessments under the Mental Health Act. Work within our community teams or our centralised Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Hub. Hampshire County Council supports and funds the training to become an Approved Mental Health Professional.
Best Interest Assessor
Is a specialist role working in our community teams and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) team. A Best Interest Assessor can be a registered social worker or nurse, occupational therapist or chartered psychologist.
Team Manager and Service Manager
We have leadership roles, where the focus is to set the vision for the service, provide support and development to colleagues, be an advocate for clients, collaborate with other agencies, uphold ethical standards and drive innovation to improve service delivery and outcomes.
