Best Interests Assessors
Our Best Interests Assessors work together to implement the safeguards to provide legal protection for people who lack capacity and who are, or may be, deprived of their liberty. In line with Article 5 of the Human Rights Act, the BIAs ensure that our residents’ Human Rights are not breached.
Our BIAs contribute to our flexible response capabilities, assessing complex and high priority referrals and providing an independent review of restrictive care arrangements. Using their relationship management and mediation skills, they collaborate with families, psychiatrists, care homes, hospitals, social workers, commissioners, the ICB, and advocacy. Our BIAs also participate in the BIA duty function, supporting the team with triaging referrals and responding to requests for advice relating to MCA/DoLS.
