Media Coordinator for Friends of Staunton Country Park

Support the preservation and conservation of the Country Park

Purpose of the role

Friends of Staunton Country Park is local group committed to supporting Hampshire Countryside Service in the preservation and conservation of Staunton Country Park, including its buildings and other identified sites of interest.

The Friends of Staunton Country Park group are looking for a Volunteer Media Coordinator to help them to maintain a public profile and generate interest in the aims and objectives of the group. The projects the group gets involved in seek to educate the public about the park’s history and draw attention to the diversity of flora and fauna present in the Park.

It is an exciting time for Staunton Country Park, which was awarded a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to restore Staunton’s Regency heritage, enhance community facilities for visitors and to increase the volunteer offer.

Typical tasks and duties

The Friends of Staunton Country Park group’s main tasks involve

  • carrying out specific projects agreed with Hampshire Countryside Services
  • identifying, recording and researching sites of interest
  • fundraising
  • public events
  • Education

The duties of the Volunteer Media Coordinator within this group would include

  • creating and maintaining a positive public profile for the Friends of Staunton Country Park group across various media platforms. Specifically, this would involve taking responsibility for the creation and maintenance of a web page and for the Facebook group
  • be the main point of contact for any media enquiries (with support from the Committee as required) and to seek to publicise the group through local media avenues, for example writing press releases
  • the promotion of the Friends of Staunton Country Park group to increase interest in the aims and objectives of the group (in conjunction with the Volunteer Fundraiser and committee)
  • to increase membership to Friends of Staunton Country Park (in conjunction with the Volunteer Fundraiser and committee)

Skills and knowledge

The role would suit someone with previous experience/interest in working with community groups or charities.

Good interpersonal skills would be advantageous, as the role will involve working alongside other volunteers, with occasional direct contact with stakeholders and members of the public.

The volunteer would also need be confident in IT, web page construction and social media, as this is a key part of the role.

Experience and training

The Volunteer Media Coordinator can expect to work closely with the Volunteer Fundraiser and to receive support and guidance from the Trustees and committee members. They will also be able to get involved with specific projects of interest to further their personal development and/or for their enjoyment.

When

Expected commitment includes a minimum of 3 hours per week based at home and at least one meeting per calendar month, which is currently virtual.

We are looking for

  • previous experience/interest in working with community groups or charities
  • good interpersonal and communication skills, in order to work alongside other volunteers and to make contact with stakeholders and members of the public
  • confidence in attending virtual meetings, IT, web page construction and social media
